The 5th bow latches aren't right. With the roof closed they should both be 1.5 ohms with the roof open they should both be infinite ohms.

Remember that connector you used for manually powering the 5th bow latches, well the other 4 wires are for the micro switches. I would check continuity between that connector and the STC module connector (I'm not sure what pins on the 6 wire connector match the STC module connector, but I imagine the wire color remains the same. Then check the other side of the 6 wire connector and the connecters at the micros switches themselves.

Again measure the micro switches and activate them manually to make sure you go from infinite ohms to 1.5 ohms.

Looks like the RH side one is sticking in the closed position and LH side one in the open position regardless of if the micro switch is being activated or not.

Sometimes the problem can be hard to spot since the switch will appear fine when you manually test it, but there is a loose internal connection that can through it off. Also make sure the metal arms are bent correctly so the latch eye depresses them fully when closed.

Thanks, will trace wires and try. Think I'm getting muddled with the names,
Are the 5th bow latches are showing ok? 1.5 with roof closed, infinite with roof open.
Are the 'cover latches' the ones I'm testing fixed to the underside of tonneau cover as I thought they were the 5th bow latches??

cover latches are located inside the rear inner fenders on the top outer edges

5th bow latches reside under the tonneau

btw - I got rid of my "check top" error light by adjusting the 'prongs' on the microswitches located @ each cover latch so that they now are contacted with the closing tonneau

My bad, I read it wrong. You probably just need to adjust the metal tabs on the torneau cover latch switches to make sure they are activated when the cover is down. These wont really cause much of an issue but you will get an error message every time you drive away if the STC module doesn't think the torneau cover is properly secured.

Fully closed and tight. unsure if its the motor, will check tomorrow where noise coming from. The tonneau latches do not unlock when I attempt to raise the roof. Could it be a relay issue?
Puzzled at the location for the issue, tech2 says 5th bow, STC says cover latches
I was trying to lift from fully down and cover latched.

Yes I can unlock and lock via 12v to plug in the boot, which I couldn't originally. But when I use the switch to try and electrically raise the roof, a noise can be heard but no unlatching or movement, and no SID message either. I didn't try unlatching by jumping with 12v then trying to raise the roof via switch

Unlatch the 5th bow by jumping it, reconnect the connection and try to run through the rest of the motion.

If the 5th bow isn't unlatching when you hit the switch, you probably have either a relay issue (it's the middle of the 3 behind the right hand rear trim panel) or a micro switch is causing a problem with the STC module.

I would recheck all the micro switches and with the roof closed make sure they all report the correct way, if any don't adjust the arms till they do assuming the switches are good.

Followed as above, after I unlatched and jiggled for awhile now soft top moves through entire top down process but get stuck on top up process when tonneau latches to body then 5th bow won't come back down to latch, motor sound like its under tension at this point. If I manually assist 5th bow down to latch I get 'check soft top' on SID.
Is that 5th bow lower ram, STC showed fine yesterday??

sounds like the micro switch isn't reporting, the tension sound is likely b/c the 'next step' (5th bow lowering down to then latch) is not occurring as should

just a SWAG

good luck - sorted my micro switches and sheer pin last night - I'm jazzed!

SWAG? Whats this? I'm 25 but certainly not 'hip'!!
Gave switches and mechanism a good dowse of maintenance spray, my fluid had dropped a couple mm so topped up and Kept moving roof back and forth, now slowly but surely hey presto!!
Roof is now fully functional! Must of just been the car standing unused so long before I bought it, so glad it's sorted.
Huge thanks for all help, really do appreciate the time you give!

Yes I was about to say its definitely the switches for the cover latches, if the STC module doesn't know the torneau cover is securely latched it wont lower the 5th bow. Sometimes even though they click the internal contacts are dirty and cause issues. Also when testing them manually sometimes you apply a little more force than the top would, giving the impression they are fine, when they really aren't.

Glad you got everything fine. A slight change in fluid level is fine depending on the position of the roof. With the torneau cover vertical, but everything else in the closed position (so basically when opening the top right at the point before the bows fold back to the storage bag) all the rams will be at their full extension meaning the level at the reservoir will be at its lowest. With the roof fully stowed away and cover down and latched level will be at its highest. As long as it's between the min and max in both scenarios you should be all set.

nice!

happy to be a NOOB and to be able to help - feels good to give back

SWAG = sh!t wild **** guess :confused:
