Guys,

I'm getting my ECU tuned.

What do you think I should set the rev limit at?

I was thinking something like 6300. Stock valve springs.

What do you's think?

with uprated valve springs im set at 7.3k-7.5k

T5 rev limit has a slightly lag
whatever you set it to figure the engine will probly get another 150-250rpms over that

on my old stock head i was set at 7k though it go a lil higher than that ;)
only time i ever revved that high was in 2nd just to hit back into my power-band in 3rd

have bounced off a 7k rev limit plenty of times without issues on a stock head (as long as your engine is up to par to handle it.... maintained well)

If you were road racing/auto x and needed to hold out the gear I'd probably shoot around 6500ish. I have mine set there, never intentionally hit it though.

Considering we have the same turbo, I think this may be particularly relevant; I've set mine to 6k rpm. Why? With our turbo, and a stock head/valves, we aren't making power in that RPM range-just heat. As such, I've set mine to 6k so that 1) I don't unnecessarily wear the engine and 2) I sort of use it as a"shift point" when hard on the gas, this way I don't rev it out of the power band.;)
FYI, I don't generally use the limiter as a "guide", but wheel spin is a problem and as such the limiter gets exercised....frequently.

If you motor is in fair condition (mine had a hg change and new standard valve springs) go for it. My 19t was still pulling nicely over 6k so I let it rev to 7k. If your not comfortable doing it mate, don't. It's your motor arguer the end of the day. Summat tells me you'll be spanking the **** off it though as on paper it should be a little better than my 19t :)

I got my info from TrollTuner:

http://trolltuner.com/?p=901

"Stock Pressure plate (This includes Spec blue painted stock ones) should not be run past 7000rpm EVER, That means 6800 max since there is a 200 cushion in trionic. The plate deflects considerably. Running them over this is a great safety risk. We experienced multiple dowel pin failure and plate explosion on the drag car as we found this out. Cost a few gearboxes, flywheels etc…"

Does this include the Viggen PP as well?

OK guys, I've had a night to sleep on it. (early Saturday here).
I'm going to go with a 6500 limit. Just to be on the safe side. I'm not going to need to rev it any more than that. Not with my little turbo.

In saying that, I totally agree that you can rev 7k, But that makes me real nervous and unnecessary for me.

If I'm driving it hard, I'm gunna shift @6300k with a 6500 limit.

Someone agree with me :p

The bottom line is that with T5 cams and the T28 turbo, it will be pointless to rev it past 6500 from a power production standpoint.

Though it may not be "out of breath" between 6K and 7K, the peak HP will not be found much, if any past 6K. Actually, peak road HP is likely made around 5800 RPMs.

On the other side of the equation, I will add that I have analysed my acceleration and found that it falls off only a few percentage points between 6K and 6.5K.
