Hi

Anyone aware of common faults on auto transmission of 9-3 year 2000 models?? Bought car in Dec 06 all fine.

By end of Feb auto transmission failure warning light has appeared on average about once a week. Has only shut down into limp home mode twice, otherwise light stays on for rest of journey and then OK again. Gears not slipping and can't feel any other problems. Have checked transmission fluid level and fine. Hoping not doing any damage by driving since and have booked into garage for next week but wondering if there may be a common sensor fault - I hope!!!! There is no Saab dealer on the island where i live so tricky to consult.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted!!

Thanks

Sam

Sam,
If you haven't changed transmission fluid, and have no records that show it has been recently changed, I recommend you pick up a case of ATF and change it. Drain what you can from the pan, replace with same amount.
Drive to mix, and repeat. Repeat.

This isn't going to fix a mechanical problem, but has been known to help.
Worst case, you are out a few pounds and a little time. And it is something that should have been done anyhow. Best case, it takes care of your problem. Then just remember to drain the pan and replace that much about every 15,000 miles.

According to schelduled maintenance, the ATF should be changed at 60K...
For the 9-3, this may scheldule have changed.....Never-the-less not a bad thing to do...

And without service records, a man can "assume" that nothing was ever done...

Low battery voltage can cause these and many other "problems", I'd start there..Then check out all the connections between the transmission and its ECU...(electronic control unit)

An island on this planet without a Saab dealer....oohhhhhhh:eek: , but there must a legitimate mechanic around ? - one who knows diagnostics..

on that particlilar model I would personally have the codes checked its possable its a trans selector range switch.
With this man, I agree , but I do not know why:nono; .
Maybe it is something to do with resistance in the contacts..
I think that the auto-trans itself will last forever or 15 years...
