Has anyone converted their 9-5 to use BioFuel E85 ?

Hi,

I have been looking at the BSR performance tuning and have been very interested in their BSR BioFuel ECU upgrade. However the performance increase given by BSR is only applicable for E85 fuel.

I like to know whether anyone know what type of performance gain can be had with the BioFuel ECU upgrade on non E85 (ie Shell VPower or Shell Vpower Racing with 98 and 100 Octane rating) which is what I'm using now.

We don't have E85 fuel in Australia yet, but I don't mind jumping into the bandwagon now - anyway, this gives me a good excuse to give to the wife to upgrade my ECU software :) .

If non E85 fuel can still give the same performance gain, then great - but if there are no sufficient gain with non E85 fuel then I will need to reconsider.

Cheers,
Michael.

We have a couple of our personal 9-5 Aero running on e85. Also quite a few customer cars. Given not on BSR soft. Typically the conversions are either adapted to ethanol or they are flexible to self adjust to run on either gas or e85. In your heat it would be very nice to run on e85.

Hi,

Normally you should expect to see perhaps 10 hp or so gain from E85, with a stage 1 software. Slightly higher increase in warm climate as the E85 is more or less "knock immune". We dynoed my BioPower last summer in 30 degrees C with a very poor fan. No sign of knocking whatsoever...

With more hardware mods you can typically expect to see more like 20-40 hp gains on E85. My car gave 310 whp (344 hp engine) on E85. We figure it makes appr. 310-315 hp on regular pump gas (98 RON).

My car has been custom tuned by MapTun Performance. They also offer BioPower conversions for MY2002 and up 9-5's.

Best regards,

KK
